Zeglis Building gets a face lift

The latest recipient of a Main Street Momence Facade Grant is the landmark First National Bank or "Zeglis" Building. The first-floor window trim of the Classical Revival structure, which is now home to the MSM office as well as the Zeglis law offices, received a fresh coat of paint. Several boarded-up transom windows also received replacement glass per the recommendations of the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency. The crowning glory - a thorough refinishing of the double wooden entry doors, complete with hardware polishing and replacement.
The Zeglis building is located at Dixie Hwy. and Washington St. in historic downtown Momence.

Local History book available at MSM office

Written by Momence native Kevin McNulty in 2007, "Around Momence" outlines our city's rich history. Copies are available for purchase in the Main Street office. A portion of the proceeds benefits Main Street Momence.

FROM THE PUBLISHER: The city of Momence owes its origins to the flow of the Kankakee River through eastern Kankakee County. This diverse tributary linked marshy areas in Indiana to the adjacent fertile fields on the Illinois side. Momence became a beacon, providing traders with the latest conveniences and a break from the frontier. Years later, the historic Dixie Highway crossed the river at Momence, ensuring a modern era for the city. Momence approaches its 200th year as a community.
